How to honour your past, present & future with Unique Art
Looking for Art that is unique & honours your past, present & future?
This collection of artworks is my latest series of mixed media art on both paper and canvas. There are currently 11 pieces in this collection.
The title of the collection is ‘I ngā wa o Mua - Turn to the times of the Past’.
My inspiration for this series is from my ideas around the concept of ‘Time’, in particular, ‘Past, Present & Future’.
During my painting sessions, my mind often drifts to fond memories of my childhood ‘alone-times’, what I would notice in those silences; as well the significant people of that time. (Whanau/family)
When I paint, I have a sense of those significant people being around me and those moments of being ‘still’ and noticing patterns and beauty in everyday objects.
Then my mind walks through a series of scenarios and conversations with said ‘people’ in a present context and I imagine what life might be like with them here.
I imagine how the patterns and beauty I remember from childhood, could translate into my art as an adult.
My belief is that when I paint, I am being ‘present’, however my thoughts drift in and out of my past. I then bring forth the past to help ‘play out’ future scenarios and conversations. I feel that the concept of ‘past, present & future’ aren't as chronological or linear as once thought, rather more so, intertwined and interchangeable.
Herein lies the inspiration for ‘I ngā wa o Mua, Turn to the times of the Past.’
“In traditional Maori culture the present time cannot be understood without taking into consideration what happened in the past. Time is circular. The past, present and future are linked’.

Cultural Perspectives
My process for creating this collection ironically took some time but was not limited to any timeframe or deadline.
As though creating the supports for my ideas on how to represent past, present & future, the foundations took on an ethereal, abstract landscape feel, a reference to a time-less place. The multiple layers in this phase of the painting also represent life experiences. Interestingly for the majority of the paper artwork in this series, the abstract landscapes were painted months beforehand.
Overlaid on this are three Pou/pillars representing past, present & future with reference to my Māori heritage. In a number of the works, the positioning of the pou/pillars are significant in that they seem infinite or appear more in the foreground or backwards in relation to each other. This also gives representation of time being intertwined.
As with all of my art, I try to capture emotion and feelings of connectedness across all realms. I want for my art to acknowledge everything about what life has offered in the past, where it’s lead me to now and what it can offer my future.
The colours enhance the feel of an ethereal setting whilst allowing enough contrast for the pou to feature.
This range of works come in various shapes and sizes, both professionally framed and on canvas. The largest is on canvas 910x1520mm, as is the smallest at 200x200mm. All canvas art is varnished in either a satin or gloss finish.
From the original framed pieces (German Etching Paper 310gsm) there are limited edition prints available in two sizes, A3 and A2.
The media for all artworks are multiple, predominantly acrylic paint and ink.

As always, thank you for your support, I appreciate it immensely and I am humbled by your encouragement to continue this path of creating art.
